Language and Literacy Intervention for Students with CVI who use AAC

Date/Location:

February 22, 2022

Description:

Many students with complex disabilities including CVI use alternative augmentative communication (AAC) systems to communicate.  SLPs may lack understanding of how the visual characteristics of CVI can impact the development of language and literacy skills for these students.  This webinar is a follow-up to Seeing Success:  AAC Intervention for Children with CVI.  Specific strategies will be shared to help students make progress toward their language and literacy skills using AAC.  The presenter will also discuss accommodations and modifications for AAC systems and intervention to support students with CVI.

Speakers:

Amanda Soper, MS, CCC-SLP

Learning Outcomes:

Discuss 2 strategies used in literacy instruction for individuals with CVI.

Describe at least 2 strategies for modifying language interventions to meet the needs of individuals with CVI who are using AAC.

Discuss at least 3 intervention strategies for teaching vocabulary on an AAC system to individuals with CVI.
