Everyday AAC in the Real World

Description:
The Ellis School of Atlanta invites the community to join us for a discussion led by guest speaker, Vicki Clarke, on the real world implementation of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices. This workshop provides an overview of topics including: – Defining appropriate individualized AAC goals – Analyzing the communication environment to match AAC goals to typical daily activities – Understanding and assessing communicative competence in AAC, across all skill levels – Understanding and identifying candidates for AAC supports.

Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will be able to name the 3 communication skills levels and to provide a short description of each.
- Participants will be able to name 4 communication competencies needed to effectively communicate using augmentative communication.
- Participants will be able to complete a simple schedule analysis of an AAC user’s day and identify several target messages for each identified environment.
