Everyday AAC in the Real World

Description:

The Ellis School of Atlanta invites the community to join us for a discussion led by guest speaker, Vicki Clarke, on the real world implementation of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices. This workshop provides an overview of topics including: – Defining appropriate individualized AAC goals – Analyzing the communication environment to match AAC goals to typical daily activities – Understanding and assessing communicative competence in AAC, across all skill levels – Understanding and identifying candidates for AAC supports.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will be able to name the 3 communication skills levels and to provide a short description of each.
  2. Participants will be able to name 4 communication competencies needed to effectively communicate using augmentative communication.
  3. Participants will be able to complete a simple schedule analysis of an AAC user’s day and identify several target messages for each identified environment.

CEUs

This activity is offered for up to 0.3 CEUs (3.25 hours of instruction). To register for CEUs:
