Taming the Advice Monster: Strategies to Support Collaborative Efforts
Date/Location:
February 28, 2024
Description:
Shifting educational practices often begins with shifting mindsets. As two AAC Specialists at the state-level, we found that it is essential and more impactful when we move away from traditional professional development opportunities in which the trainer is often thought of as “the expert.” We focus on building the knowledge, skills, and confidence of the team while capitalizing on the unique expertise of each team member. Each time we provide training or engage with a team, we find that we learn just as much as, if not more than, the participants. It would be beneficial for other educators and team leaders to learn about these strategies, understand the “why” behind the shift in mindset, and walk away with tools that they can use immediately.
Speakers:
Sara Pericolosi, M.A. CCC-SLP
Learning Outcomes:
Describe how the seven partnership principles can be applied within their respective roles.
Summarize how the components of the GROWTH coaching framework can be utilized to enhance educational conversations and outcomes for students.
Explain how the five simple truths of adult learners may affect collaboration with colleagues, parents, and/or administrators.
