SpeakUnique: Personalized Synthetic Voice for SGDs

Date/Location:

Tuesday, September 28, 2021

Description:

Speech generating devices (SGDs), whilst valuable, are limited in the range of synthetic voices users can pick from; these preinstalled synthetic voices do not reflect the diverse voices we hear in everyday life. Creation of personalized synthetic voices allows for users of SGDs to create a bespoke voice that they identify with. SpeakUnique develop personalized synthetic voices that cater to the needs of adult SGD users, with all speech needs. These personalized voices have been created for people living with a range of medical conditions including those living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, and multiple system atrophy.

Speakers:

Alice Smith

Lynda Tomarelli

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to determine which of SpeakUnique’s services is appropriate for a specific user.

Participants will be able to describe how SpeakUnique’s synthetic voices can be used within a speech generating device.

Participants will be able to explain the voice banking process for an individual.
