Is Your Student Data Safe?
Date/Location:
March 7, 2019, Online
Description:
Many educators and clinicians do not recognize the potential danger when downloading free (and paid) apps, extentions and other tools in the assistive technology world. Just because we are serving students with disabilities does not make us immune to the ploys of data being collected and sold, or our student’s being exposed to inappropriate advertising. There are laws to protect us and guidance to follow, if you just make yourself aware.
Speakers:
Kelly Fonner, MS
Mike Marotta, ATP
Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will be able to state the specifics of FERPA & COPPA as to how they impact security of student information within assistive technology tools and apps/extensions (Free and Paid).
- Participants will be able to list 3 things to discovering about tool and data security before recommending the type & amount of information that is collected; who has access to the data from that tool, how that data is collected.
