Getting Started: Considerations for Selecting and Customizing AAC Apps

Date/Location:

December 4, 2018, Online

Description:

In my work as an augmentative communication consultant, I am frequently asked for guidance in selecting which AAC app to trial with students. I also encounter individuals, programs, or school districts that favor one app over others without considering the individual needs of each student. Another widespread issue I experience is well-intentioned professionals who vastly underestimate user potential and need for robust vocabulary when setting up AAC systems. Through my presentations and my presence on social media, I am eager to share best practices in AAC, including apps selection and customization.

Speakers:

Lauren Enders, M.A., CCC-SLP

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify at least one unique feature of each AAC app presented in this webinar.
  2. Describe the “rule of thumb” when selecting button size in AAC.
  3. Define what characterizes an AAC app as a “robust” AAC option.
