Five Resources to Help with Your Workplace Accommodation Journey
Date/Location:
On Demand
Description:
Many underrepresented communities are excluded from participation in research activities, even though the findings shape policies, services, and programs that affect their daily lives. Studies have shown that these communities continue to be excluded because their members have not been invited, informed, or reached in ways that work for them (Erves et al., 2016; NASEM et al., 2022). Barriers include both a limited awareness of opportunities and recruitment efforts because, for example, they rarely take place in familiar community-based settings.
However, actively engaging these groups – as both research participants and investigators – can yield significant benefits. When research efforts are centered on community-identified issues, the results will resonate and provide actionable recommendations to increase, for example, health, housing, education, and employment equity.
The Consortium for Helping Improve Research Participation (CHIRP) was created to address these issues by building trust, sharing stories, and creating stronger connections between researchers and the communities they hope to serve. CHIRP focuses on listening to community experiences to ensure research reflects real needs and priorities. This webinar will introduce CHIRP, explain its goals, and invite participants to share their perspectives on which community engagement activities should be prioritized moving forward.
