Exploring Accommodation Options with Work ACCESS

Date/Location:

Ocotober 9, 2024

Description:

Most workplace accommodations are made by employers and employees themselves, without input from AT or vocational rehabilitation professionals. The Workplace Accommodation Expert Support System (Work ACCESS) is a tool employers and employees with disabilities can use together to make informed workplace accommodation decisions. This session will demonstrate Work ACCESS while discussing its unique features and potential applications. The development of the tool will also be described.  Finally, although originally developed for employers, Work ACCESS has the potential to be a useful tool for rehabilitation services providers. We will introduce a new project to evaluate the tool for use within the vocational rehabilitation system as part of the new Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Accommodations, Employment Supports, and Success for People with Physical Disabilities (ACCESS-PD RRTC).

Speakers:

Karen Milchus, M.S.

Learning Outcomes:

Describe three scenarios in which Work ACCESS might be used.

Identify three things that make Work ACCESS unique compared to other accommodation tools.

Describe the steps that are being used to evaluate Work ACCESS.
