Designing Accessible Content to Incluse All Students

Date/Location:

May 15, 2024

Description:

Foundational to Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) is the belief that ALL students need access to core instruction. Assuring that students have “accessible versions of educational materials may mean the difference between learning barriers and learning opportunities.” (National Center on Accessible Educational Material). As educators, we are tasked with providing learning materials that are accessible to diverse student groups. What resources are available to guide educators through this process? The Special Education Technology Center (SETC) in Washington State has created a free online learning course in an Open Educational Resources (OER) format to help educators navigate the process of vetting and creating educational material that is fully accessible to students, staff, and parents. In this 13-module course “Accessible Content for All”, participants will have the opportunity to explore and compare accessibility tools and strategies that allow all students to access educational materials across learning environments.

Speakers:

Rose Raciot, MS, OTR/L, AT

Kristin Leslie, ATP, MAT, OTR/L

Learning Outcomes:

Discuss two ways that accessible core curriculum materials can benefit student learning in your classroom.

Compare and contrast at least two tech tools and strategies to improve accessibility of curriculum content in your classroom or district.

Evaluate your classroom or district’s accessibility needs and identify one step you can take to improve accessibility for students.
