Coupling Assistive Technolgy Solutions with Digital Accessibility

Date/Location:

May 14, 2025

Description:

Assistive Technology (AT) solutions offer tremendous potential to give individuals with disabilities the ability and independence to carry out tasks in their personal, educational, and work environments that are challenging or may not be possible otherwise. However, the AT may not be the true solution if the digital content accessed by AT is not fully accessible. The disconnect that occurs between an AT solution and inaccessible content may place unreasonable expectations upon individuals with disabilities utilizing both. This webinar will discuss several AT solutions and provide an overview of established standards and legal requirements required for digital content. Examples will be given that highlight what effective integration of AT and digital accessibility looks like for individuals with disabilities.

Speakers:

Johan Rempel

Jennifer Ro, MA, CCC-SLP

Learning Outcomes:

Attendees will be able to evaluate at least 3 elements of a website for accessibility

Attendees will be able to list 3 AT features that can be provided through specific AT applications/devices or embedded in consumer-based applications/devices

Attendees will be able to understand how AT devices and features must be coupled with accessible digital content in order for individuals with disabilities to achieve successful and full access to digital content
