CDC Accessible Materials Project Training – Communicating with People who are Deaf or have Hearing-Related Disabilities

Description:

This session will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the modes of communication and translation options that people who are deaf or have hearing-related disabilities utilize, and how to integrate these resource needs in public health planning, emergency response planning and overarching communication efforts. In order to achieve health equity, it is necessary to increase accessibility of health communications materials for people with disabilities.

Learning Outcomes:

List four (4) specific ways to increase access to various modes of communication for people who are Deaf or have hearing related disabilities based on principles of universal design for learning, Section 508, WCAG 2.0/2.1, and assistive technology.

Identify four (4) strategies and solutions for implementing assistive technology, ASL, and captioning into a variety of communication plans and products.

Identify and access two (2) resources for people who are Deaf and have hearing related disabilities.

Apply one (1) strategy for communicating with people who use ASL in an emergency response.
