Augmenting Communication with Universal Core

Description:

This 120-minute course is intended to introduce participants to the evidence behind using core words as part of AAC, and methods for identifying client populations that can most benefit from a core words approach. The course will familiarize participants with Universal Core on dedicated speech generating devices such as the Zuvo 12 HD-D and the Wego 13A-D. Opportunities for exploring Universal Core and other similar vocabulary sets will be provided through guided hands-on activities.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will demonstrate understanding of differences between vocabulary sets on speech generating devices based on core words and those based on pre-stored messages.
  2. Participants will demonstrate understanding of methods for identifying individuals appropriate for use of Universal Core.
  3. Participants will demonstrate understanding of the evidence based characteristics of Universal Core.
  4. Participants will demonstrate understanding of implementation of Universal Core through lesson planning and data collection.

CEUs

This activity is offered for up to 0.2 CEUs (2.0 hours of instruction). To register for CEUs:
