AAC Tools for the Toolbox: An Overview of Speech Generating Devices & Access Methods

Description:

This 60 minute course is intended to be a demonstration and discussion of a variety of AAC devices and access methods. The session involves a demonstration and discussion of the software, hardware and access method features of several devices including the Nova Chat 8, & 10, Wego 7A & 10A, and Zuvo 12 & Eyespeak 18HD speech generating devices (SGD). This session will touch on multi-modal communication and the role of communication advocates.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will demonstrate an understanding on use of at least 3 devices by hardware.
  2. Participants will identify 3 unique features of each device (e.g., device design, access methods supported, manufacturer support/warranty).
  3. Participants will demonstrate knowledge on basic programming/customizing of given vocabulary files of at least three devices.
  4. Participants will be able to define “total communication approach” as it relates to an AAC user.

CEUs

This activity is offered for up to 0.1 CEUs (1.0 hour of instruction). To register for CEUs:
