AI-Magine the Possibilities 2.0
Date/Location:
On Demand
Description:
AI is a powerful support tool for creating inclusive classrooms, not a replacement for instruction. It functions by helping to personalize, differentiate, and equalize access to learning, aligning closely with the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The session outlines AI tools available for core academic areas and specific accessibility needs. For reading instruction, tools like Microsoft Immersive Reader, Speechify, and AI Summarization are recommended. In writing instruction, aids such as Grammarly/GrammarlyGO, ChatGPT, and QuillBot can be utilized. For mathematics, tools such as Photomath, Mathway, and Khan Academy offer support. Beyond academics, AI tools also exist for Social Emotional Learning (SEL), including alongside and eaSEL. The technology also offers specialized support for students with vision impairments (e.g., Be My Eyes, Seeing AI), hearing impairments (e.g., Otter.ai, Live Transcribe), and those using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) (e.g., ChatGPT-linked AAC boards, Voiceitt). A crucial takeaway is a four-step framework for strategically connecting AI tools to IEP goals, which involves analyzing the goals, identifying skill gaps, matching the appropriate AI tools, and then implementing and monitoring the results. Ultimately, AI facilitates personalized, inclusive instruction that can directly align with students’ IEP goals.
