AAC Language Representation Methods (0.3 CEUs)
This course reviews the goal of AAC and the components of evidence-based practice and then focuses on a framework for how language is represented and generated using AAC interventions. Although several hundred AAC devices may be on the market only three (3) representational methods are available to support communication. By taking this course you will learn the 3 AAC language representation methods (LRMs): 1) single meaning pictures; 2) alphabet-based methods; 3) Semantic Compaction. You will be able to describe and identify each by its characteristics and attributions. Finally, you will learn about the values and expectations regarding the AAC LRMs from an augmented communicator.
