To School and Beyond – Supporting Students with OI needs in School and the Workforce

What happens after a student ages out of the school system? Learn how to best help students and their families prepare for this transition. We will hear from several expert speakers in areas that include access and positioning, equipment, insurance changes, post-secondary community
opportunities, assistive technology supports and how to assist with this transition when you are in the classroom. This program is geared to current practicing Occupational and Physical Therapists in the K-12 school setting in the state of Georgia.

Learning Outcomes:
Discuss the needs-based assessment items they must consider when determining seating supports that can best support access in a student that utilizes a wheelchair in the classroom and in the workforce.
Discuss strategies that related service providers can use to support teachers when implementing assistive technology into the classroom.
Discuss practical applications of assistive technologies/ academic tools/ work based supports for persons with disabilities.
Discuss current best practice when working with DME providers for orthotics and adaptations needed for school and workforce.
