Generations at Play: From Controllers to Community in Recreation and Life Skills
Date/Location:
November 11, 2026
Description:
This session explores how gaming and recreation can be adapted for leisure at any age, meeting individual interests, needs, and skills while building real-world life skills. Using Independent Living (IL) principles, peer-to-peer interaction, and assistive technology, we’ll examine how these tools support peer support groups in middle school, guide youth through life transitions, and help veterans reconnect and move forward. Across every age group, the goal remains the same: adaptive play that builds confidence, connection, and independence.
Speakers:
Christina Gunter
Learning Outcomes:
Identify assistive technology and gaming options that support individuals of all ages.
Describe ways to adapt assistive technology into gaming to assist with daily living skills.
Create a plan for any age, disability, and stage of life to utilize assistive technology for recreation and daily life purposes.
