Cognitive Aids in the Workplace: Time Management and Learning New Tasks

Date/Location:

March 24, 2021, Virtual

Description:

The majority of workplace accommodations are determined not by trained service providers, but by employers and/or the employees themselves. Unfortunately, these groups lack information about the full range of accommodation options that are available and lack understanding about what options work best in which situations. The Work ACCESS project is addressing this need by creating an easy-to-use workplace-accommodation assessment system that helps employers and employees make intelligent choices about the most appropriate accommodations. This session shares some of the tools and strategies for helping individuals with cognitive challenges that the research team has gleaned from their work with expert focus groups as part of the Work ACCESS project. Examples and stories from these sessions will help illustrate how AT can be used to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities operate more independently and productively in the workplace.

Speakers:

Dr. Ben Satterfield

Karen Milchus

Learning Outcomes:

Identify three (3) challenges/functional limitations facing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in obtaining and maintaining successful employment.

List three (3) ways assistive technology can support individuals with I/DD in the workplace.
