Assistive Technology to Support Mental Health
Date/Location:
On Demand
Description:
Mental health is more than a buzzword—it is a critical factor in student success, both academically and socially. In today’s educational environments, students face increasing demands on their time, attention, and emotional resilience. For students with disabilities such as ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, or intellectual disabilities, these demands can amplify challenges with executive functioning, emotional regulation, and social interactions. During this session, we’ll explore how assistive technology can support students’ social, emotional, and mental health needs in general and special education settings. Participants will learn about low-tech and high-tech tools that promote self-regulation, reduce anxiety, build coping skills, and create more emotionally accessible learning environments. From browser extensions and wearable timers to apps for mindfulness and emotional tracking, this session will provide practical, classroom-ready strategies and resources.
Speakers:
Cassie Frost, M.S.Ed, ATP
Learning Outcomes:
Identify at least three ways that assistive technology can support mental health.
Compare and contrast at least 5 different assistive technology supports for mental health.
Discuss the potential barriers and pitfalls of using high tech assistive technology to support mental health.
