AAC: An overview of Dedicated Speech Generating Devices, Considerations, Feature Matching, Implementation, and the Funding Process

Description:

This 60-minute course is intended to be a demonstration and discussion of a variety of AAC devices, how to use a client’s strengths and needs to feature match with an AAC device, tips for implementation and how to initiate the funding process for client to obtain their own speech-generating device. The session involves instruction and description of the software and hardware features of several devices including the Wego 5A, 7A, 10A, 13A and Zuvo 10, 12, 16 speech generating devices (SGD).

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will demonstrate an understanding on use of at least 3 devices by hardware.

Participants will identify at least 3 considerations that need to be taken into account when considering AAC.

Participants will demonstrate knowledge of initiating funding through insurance and the data collection process.  

Participants will identify at least 3 implementation techniques when utilizing AAC.
