AT in Transition: Lived Experiences in Community, Work and Independent Living

November 11, 2026

Description:

Transitions to community participation, employment, and independent living can create new opportunities as well as practical challenges for people with disabilities. This session uses the lived experiences of a young man navigating these transitions to examine how assistive technology (AT) can support greater independence, participation, and self-determination. Through a case-study approach, participants will explore challenges that arise in everyday activities, including managing money and purchases, organizing time, completing chores and responsibilities, making health and medical decisions, managing personal care, and participating in recreational and community activities.

Speakers:

Ben Satterfield, Ed.D.

Learning Outcomes:

Identify three challenges with transitions to community, workplace, and independent living for individuals with disabilities.

List three resources to learn more about AI tools and transition to community, workplace, and independent living.
