Backpacking through the Burgh!

ICAN™ Talk Clinic is offering 4 mini-camps this summer for campers as an intensive language and literacy experience. No more than 3-6 campers will be accepted and matched with clinicians and volunteers for fun and exciting individual and group activities over 3 days at our clinic and in the Pittsburgh community to build language, literacy and overall confidence using their AAC systems.

Besides the excitement, comradery, and opportunities for campers to talk with their technology out and about in Pittsburgh, campers will leave with a portfolio notebook that contains:

  • Work created by the camper
  • Completed Early LAMBaseline or Core Word Baseline
  • Summary of effective evidence-based intervention strategies
  • AACTion Point handouts to share with the campers’ school team
  • Examples of IEP and/or Transition Plan goals/objectives
  • Parent training materials and resources
  • Summary of recommendations from parent consultation meeting

The application process is open for our eighth annual summer of providing a community-base camp in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

June 21-23, 2018: Children with Cerebral Palsy and Eye Gaze

July 19-21, 2018: Children with Autism and/or Developmentally Delayed

July 26-28, 2018 Young adult camp; ages 15-25 years old

*Campers will be placed to create peer groups for activities at similar levels that are age appropriate thus multiple week availability is needed.

If you want to discuss specific concerns or questions you may have about your child’s AAC use, individual 30-minute consultations with Dr. Katya Hill, Executive Director of the AAC Institute and Mike O’Leary, ICAN Talk Clinic’s Assistant Clinical Director during the camp are available (an additional fee is required).
