Welcome to the Clinical AAC Research Conference web site. The CAAC Research Conference is an annual forum for clinicians and researchers engaged in the study and clinical management of persons who use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) .

The CAAC Research Conference Funding

The CAAC Research Conference is funded primarily by participant registration fees and contributions by sponsors. A grant from AAC Institute provided startup funding. Administrative support is also provided by AAC Institute.

ABOUT CAAC

CAAC is a free-standing independent event. Portions of the conference have been generously sponsored by AAC Institute. AAC Institute sponsors special Student Scientific Paper Awards.

PROGRAM

The 2015 Clinical AAC Research Conference (CAAC) is the ninth annual forum created specifically for clinicians and researchers engaged in the study and clinical management of people who use augmentative and alternative communication. CAAC offers interaction opportunities with leading researchers providing unique insights into clinical research. Original research is presented and participants engage in comprehensive discussions with colleagues. To encourage a program conducive to the exchange of ideas, attendance will be limited to approximately 100 people. If you wish to present, you should submit a summary of an original paper or poster.

The CAAC Steering committee directs the conference. Steering committee members include: Lyle L. Lloyd, Chair, Erna Alant, Elizabeth Hanson, Katya Hill, Filip Loncke, Barbara Braddock, and Richard Steele.

The Call for Papers is open until Monday May15st, 2015. Authors will be notified of paper acceptance by August 1st. The Call for Papers is at www. aacinstitute.org/CAAC. Registration is open for authors of accepted proposals, graduate students being mentored by authors of papers and anyone interested in clinical research in AAC. Students may also attend a special Student Research Seminar hosted by Dr. Lyle Lloyd and program committee members and qualify for the Student Scientific Paper Award. ProfessionalRegistration is $150.00 Student Registration is $50.00

STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD AND SEMINAR

The AAC Institute Student CAAC Research Paper Awards promote quality clinical research in the field of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). The awards emphasize the importance of AAC evidence-based practice, quantitative performance measurement, and outcomes. Established in 2008, these awards impact research in the field of AAC by encouraging high standards for student clinical research activities. Read more

ACCOMMODATION 

Hotel reservations are currently being handled on an individual basis. Attendees should email Diane Cole at ddc2d@virginia.edu with room requirements (dates, double or single). She will provide the location and phone number for you to call and make your own reservation.
Please contact Diane as soon as possible, but NO LATER than Monday, September 14th, as hotel rooms in Charlottesville are difficult to find during the Fall months.

REGISTRATION 

Presenters, researchers and graduate students are welcomed to register! Researchers are encouraged to invite graduate students they are mentoring to attend CAAC even if the mentee is NOT an author on the accepted paper. The Clinical AAC Research Conference NOW is open to professionals who have not submitted a proposal, but who are highly motivated in joining the discussion about elevating the type of research being conducted to contribute to the evidence guiding AAC research & development and clinical practice.

FABULOUS WINE TOUR

Please join us for a delightful afternoon tasting wine at two favored wineries in Central Virginia.  At 12:30 pm, pick up your box lunch, then board our chauffeured Mercedes Sprinter to our first winery at Afton Mountain Vineyards.   There we will enjoy a beautiful setting atop the mountain, taste 6-8 wines, and have time to enjoy our lunches with old friends and new acquaintances.  At 3:30 pm, we will embark down the mountain to Pollak Vineyards, to take in the beautiful pond and foothill setting while tasting 8-9 wines.   There will be plenty of time to relax and enjoy before departing at 5:00 to return to UVA.
