2016 ICAN™ Talk AAC Summer Camp

2016 camp

Wednesday – Saturday, July 27 – 30th, 2016

Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South, Pittsburgh, PA

At this time our camper registration is full. Any new applicants will be placed on our wait list. Please contact the office to do so at 412-402-0900. We are still accepting volunteer applications.

The application process is open for the sixth annual ICAN™ Talk AAC Summer Camp in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The dates for this year’s camp are July 27-30th. This year’s theme is “Naturally!” and we have a fun and exciting program of activities planned to help our campers develop and practice their augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) skills while they learn about nature and the environment. If you have a child or young adult between the ages of 5 and 21 who uses AAC to communicate, we encourage you to apply.

The camp venue is the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South (see hotel details below), located six miles from downtown Pittsburgh.

The ICAN™ Talk AAC Summer Camp 2016 opens on Wednesday, July 27th at 2:00 PM with sign-in and room check-in and is followed by a Poolside Welcome Reception. Thursday, July 28th is a full day of Therapeutic Activities designed to enhance the child’s receptive and expressive language abilities using their AAC system in new, interactive ways to help them achieve academic and communicative success. Parents can attend the Parent’s AAC Training Seminar with Katya Hill, PhD, CCC-SLP, Executive Director of the AAC Institute, to learn about critically important skills and strategies they need to effectively support their child’s use of AAC.

On Friday, July 29th, parents and campers participate in our “Mall Communication Challenge” day of shopping, strolling, and interactive communication at the South Hills Village Mall and on Saturday, July 30th we visit a local attraction in Pittsburgh (to be announced). Special social events are planned for Thursday and Friday evenings, too, including a parent networking opportunity and our ever-popular Friday night DJ dance party!

Optional, individual 30-minute consultations with Katya Hill, PhD, CCC-SLP, Executive Director of the AAC Institute and ICAN Talk clinicians during the camp to discuss specific concerns or questions you may have about your child’s AAC use are available (additional fee required).
